My History
My Experience as ESL Coach and Consultant
I learn as much (or more! ) from my learners as they do.
I have been teaching and training since 1983 . I have enjoyed helping people improve their Spoken English. I want my learners to be more confident English speakers when they finish their course.
I train people in Spoken English from beginner to advance level. I want you to have successful and enjoyable experiences in life. I help you gain both proficiency and confidence with your language learning endeavors.
I love that every day is always different when you are a Coach and Consultant. I'm never bored with my job! Even though students ask similar questions, the way they ask and the strategies I must apply to explain my answer is always different. I love to help others learn how to express themselves in English. It's empowering and it gives them confidence outside the classroom.
I listen to my students. If someone is struggling to find the right words, I ask lots of questions and make sure to teach them the most natural way to express what they are trying to say.I also enjoy learning about their cultures. I think I learn as much (or more!) from them as they do from me.
My Experience Teaching in Schools
Working in different schools in India always felt restrictive. They had very particular methods that they wanted me to follow.
I questioned traditional ways of teaching English in schools. I wanted to help my learners in more meaningful ways, but our time together was limited and at first I didn’t have the necessarily knowledge or experience. Only the students who took responsibility for their learning were the ones who made any real progress.
Becoming a Language Coach
While teaching in classrooms I started thinking out of the box. First thing I decided was to resign from my restrictive job and start my own Coaching Sessions. I know from my experience as an English teacher and as learner of second and third languages what works when it comes to learning English and what needs to be done. A big part of my job is to work with learners so that they:
Don't study grammar rules. Instead they listen to grammar stories with point of view grammar lessons and learn to USE grammar correctly as children do.
Don't study word lists. Instead learn vocabulary from mini-story lessons. Fun, easy, and powerful.
Don't use textbooks. Instead they listen to real conversations about real topics.
Don't learn formal English. Instead learn real-life conversational English, including idioms and slang.
I realized I needed to give a second chance to my adult learners by creating engaging and relevant interactive sessions, by inspiring them and by letting them progress at their own pace and time
Hence I became a Language Coach for ESL learners.
I often hear English learners say: “People will judge me when I make mistakes”. These are all limiting beliefs that stop learners from making progress, and as with all beliefs, they can be changed. We can do this by getting into your hearts of what is holding you back, and changing these beliefs to reach your full potential.
